Teens 13-17 sent an average of 3,364 mobile texts each month in Q1 2011, more than twice as much as the next most active texting group: 18-24-year-olds with 1,640 texts per month, according to Nielsen. Perhaps as a result, teens spend an average of 515 minutes per month talking on their phones, the lowest among all age groups except adults over 64.
Teens watch seven hours and 13 minutes of mobile video each month, nearly double the four hours and 20 minutes adults spend watching mobile video each month. Teens also pay attention to ads, with the majority (58%) “always” or “sometimes” viewing mobile ads.
The time teens spend on their cellphones is reducing how much time they spend watching TV. Teens watch less TV on average each week (23 hours, 41 minutes) than adults (34 hours, 39 minutes).
