Text Is Top Use For Mobile, But Apps Growing

More than a third of mobile phone owners (35%) ages 13 and older used their phones (including smartphones and feature phones) to access social networks or blogs in the last three months of 2011, according to comScore. Almost half used apps they’d downloaded to their phones, and the same proportion used mobile browsers. Use of apps grew 5 percentage points between the third and fourth quarters of 2011.

Google’s Android operating system is the preferred smartphone platform, with 47% of all smartphone subscribers, compared to Apple iOS at 30% and RIM Blackberry at 16%.
