There are 24.5 million households with annual incomes exceeding $100,000, according to Ipsos Mendelsohn. Affluent households spend $1.7 trillion each year, with 68% of this spending falling into the following categories: vehicles, education, groceries, home/garden, and travel. Family is the top priority for affluent adults (83%), though 18% rarely have enough time for their families.
Virtually all affluent households (99%) own at least one television, with an average of 3.4 working TVs per household. Virtually all (99%) use the Internet.
Affluent families spend $143 billion each year traveling; their top destinations are Las Vegas, New York, Orlando, and Los Angeles. “The top two [destinations] are all about shopping and entertainment, while three and four demonstrate the power of Disney,” says Ipsos’s Steve Kraus.
