The population of multiracial Americans grew 32% between 2000 and 2010, compared to 9.2% growth among the population of single-race Americans, according to recently released data from the U.S. Census Bureau.

More than nine in 10 multiracial Americans (91.7%) are of two races, while another 7.5% are of three races. Fewer than 1% (0.6%) identify themselves as being of four or more races. Among the multiracial population, the number of people belonging to three races experienced the most growth between 2000 and 2010 (64.9%).

White and Black, White and Asian, and White and Some Other Race are the most common racial combinations.

Multiracial Americans are concentrated in 10 states: California, Texas, New York, Florida, Hawaii, Washington, Illinois, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, and Ohio.

More than two thirds of multiracial Americans live in the West (37.6%) or South (30.6%). Mixed-race Americans who identify their races as White and Black are more evenly distributed throughout the U.S. than other multiracial Americans.
