Midwest Teens Dream About Careers in Healthcare

Teens living in six Midwestern states-Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, and Ohio-say their dream job is to work in healthcare (19%), according to Everest Institute. A career in computer and information technology (16%) ranks second, followed by a job in education (10%).

Teen girls are twice as likely as teen boys to select healthcare as their dream career and three times more likely to select teaching. Conversely, teen boys are twice as likely as teen girls to select computer and information technology as their dream jobs.

More than eight in 10 teens (84%) say it’s equally important to have good grades and a college degree to get a good job. A majority of teens also cite professional certificates (79%), job experience (75%), and prior experience (74%) as important factors in landing a job.
