Teens Are Connected to and Empowered by Technology

5/15/2013

All teens ages 13-18 surveyed by Ipsos MediaCT and Wikia (100%) go online for at least one hour a day. Slightly less than half (46%) are connected for more than 10 hours a day.

One in four (24%) are actively connected-such as checking email or messages-within five minutes of waking up; 73% say this morning check lasts less than one hour.

Nearly one in two teens (47%) say they are more actively connected now than they were three months ago; 41% say their connectivity remains the same; and 12% are less actively connected today than three months ago. Among those who say their tablet is the most useful device they own, 63% are more actively connected today than three months ago.

More than three in four teens (76%) feel their experience with technology will help them reach their goals, and 66% say technology makes them feel as if anything is possible. However, 43% value the time when they are unplugged.

Meanwhile, teens exert the most influence over their parents with movies and their friends with video games. Teens have little influence over purchases for eco-friendly products or healthy food and beverage items.
