More than half of mobile owners who have booked travel in the past 90 days have done so via tablet (29%) or smartphone (23%), according to JiWire. Only 13% of mobile owners don’t use their devices for any travel-related purchases (including hotels, flights, restaurants, and entertainment). Almost half of consumers who have booked travel in the past 90 days (47%) have used more than one device (including smartphones, tablets, and/or laptops) to do so.
More than four in 10 mobile users (44%) feel comfortable spending more than $500 when making travel-related purchases via mobile. Laptops are still the preferred devices for making travel purchases, however.
Four in 10 consumers who research travel via smartphone subsequently purchase travel on that device (40%), while 54% of those who research via tablet make purchases via tablet.
More than half of mobile users (56%) make reservations for future trips while they’re traveling, and 67% make reservations associated with their current trip. People who are traveling for leisure are more likely than those traveling for business to be influenced by deals or promotions, while those traveling for business are most likely to be influenced by loyalty programs and company policies.
Consumers who book travel on smartphone and/or travel prefer travel aggregator apps (37% of business travelers and 32% of leisure travelers) and branded airline apps (32% of business travelers and 33% of leisure travelers) for research and booking.
