Nine in 10 women ages 21-59 with children under age 18 living in households earning more than $35,000 a year-107 million in the U.S.-consider themselves smart shoppers, according to Time Inc.’s All You magazine. Nearly nine in 10 (88%) say getting a bargain is worth bragging about, and a similar percentage (90%) say that if they became millionaires they would still hunt for deals.
Nearly all women (94%) look for ways to buy their favorite brands at the best price.
Women smartphone owners use these devices to seek savings. Two in three (62%) look for deals using them, and 61% use their phones to search for deals while shopping in-store. Seven in 10 (70%) check deal websites on their phones every day, and 83% forward good deals to friends and family members.
The report identifies three distinct female shopper profiles:
- Super-savers (38%): These women were taught to save money by mom and are viewed as social influencers among friends; 90% check for deals online before they go shopping, and 60% use Facebook to research and share shopping deals.
- Strategic splurger (37%): They enjoy buying luxury brands and tend to splurge; 64% will spend more to save time, and 58% dislike receiving daily deal emails. They like finding deals but don’t want to be seen doing so.
- Committed convert (25%): The economy inspired them to shop smart, but they save to splurge on family members; 82% read online reviews and like using coupons; 85% feel good deals justify their spending.
