Two in three 12-to-29-year-olds (63%) say racism is a problem in society, and 38% say it’s a problem in their school or community, according to TRU Views from U.S. Yankelovich Monitor.
Teens and young adults tend to stick with their own ethnicities and races. Six in 10 say they mainly hang out with people of similar ethnic backgrounds, and 33% feel more comfortable with people of their own race. At the same time, 45% are satisfied with the diversity present in their group of friends, while 40% say they wish they had access to more diversity.
Two in three (66%) have no problem marrying someone of a different race. However, among the one-third who do have misgivings about marrying across races, 20% say they wish they had a more diverse group of friends.
