Kid TV Viewing Habits Mirrors Parents

8/1/2013

The amount of time parents spend watching TV is strongly associated with the amount of time children spend watching TV, according to research by Pennsylvania’s Annenberg Public Policy Center. Parents, on average, watch four hours of TV per day. Each hour of parental TV time results in an additional 23 minutes of TV time for children.

Coviewing is highest among parents of children ages 6-11.

Parents’ TV viewing influences their children’s TV time more than whether the children have a TV in their bedrooms and parents have TV time limits.

One caveat: The study was limited to only families with Internet access.
