Nearly one in two college students (47%) say they check their technological devices every 10 minutes, up from 38% of student who did so in 2011, according to online textbook provider CourseSmart. Two in three students (68%) use three devices or more each day.
Almost six in 10 (59%) say they are more likely to bring a laptop or tablet to class, while 41% prefer to bring a textbook.
Virtually all college students (99%) own at least one digital device, most commonly laptops (93%), smartphones (78%), and tablets (35%).
Nearly nine in 10 students (88%) have used a mobile device for last-minute studying before a test, up from 79% who did this in 2012. More than three in four students (79%) say technology saves them time when studying and learning; 64% say it saves them more than two hours a day.
More than half (53%) say they would be more likely to complete reading assignments if the material was available digitally. Currently, 90% of students don’t always complete their required reading assignments.
The potential for student debt was a critical factor for 78% of college students when deciding their schools. Student loan debt also impacted where they live (61%), types of post-graduate careers (56%), number of jobs (46%), and whether they will attend graduate school (44%). One in two (49%) decided not to attend an institution despite being accepted because of the cost.
