Smartphone Owners Are Annoyed at Constant Phone Checkers, But Gender Divides Other Annoyances

9/1/13

Both men and women find people who constantly check their mobile phones to be the most annoying pet peeve about phone behavior, according to Microsoft. The two genders also agree that talking loudly, using or not silencing phones when appropriate, using phones during face-to-face conversation, and delaying traffic by using phones are other top annoyances.

Almost four in 10 mobile phone users (39%) believe men and women equally practice mobile phone safety; women are less likely to protect themselves than men. They are less likely to use a password to lock their device and use secured wireless networks.

Still, women are more likely than men to protect their online identities. They are more likely to take additional steps to limit what personal information is posted online (40% vs. 37%), what strangers can see on social networks (40% vs. 32%), and be more selective about what they text (34% vs. 31%).
