More Than One in 10 TVs Are Connected to the Internet

More than one in 10 TV sets worldwide are connected to the Internet, and more than a quarter are projected to be connected by 2018, according to Digital TV Research. One in three connected TVs are in the U.S., but this proportion is expected to decline to 24% by 2018.

By 2018, smart TVs will account for 34% of all connected TV sets. By the end of 2013, 110 million smart TVs are expected to be installed in homes worldwide, with 259 million projected by 2018. Other technologies used to connect TVs to the Internet include streaming/set-top boxes, gaming consoles, and Blu-ray players.
