Majority of Employed Americans Say Their Jobs Don’t Require College Degrees

11/4/13

The majority of U.S. adults (57%) who work full or part time say their current position does not require a college or graduate degree, according to Gallup. Among those who have bachelor’s degrees, 41% say their jobs don’t require it. Those working in executive, professional, or managerial positions (67%) are more likely than other white-collar workers (50%) or blue collar workers (18%) to say their jobs require a bachelor’s degree or more education.

There are slight differences by age but no significant differences by gender in workers’ self-assessment of the education needed for their current jobs.
