Emerging Majorities Embrace Alternative Video Platforms, But Don’t Cancel Subscription Services

Americans with broadband Internet access are more likely to use alternative sources to view television programs, such as handheld devices and online streaming, according to Horowitz Associates. Although emerging majorities are embracing alternative platforms, 75% of Hispanics, 74% of Blacks, and 70% of Asians report they primarily watch television via a traditional TV set. By comparison, 75% of Whites primarily watch on a TV set.

In addition, different proportions of each group would consider cancelling their traditional TV subscription services if more of their favorite TV programming were available online. Only 13% of Blacks, 18% of Hispanics, 24% of Asians, and 25% of Whites would think about doing so.

It is important to note that Hispanics and Blacks are less likely than Whites and Asians to have broadband Internet access at home, though they are rapidly adopting the technology. [Entertainment, Online]
