Women-Led Protests in Iran have most of Americans Approval

On September 16, 22 year old Mahsa Amini died in the custody of Iran’s morality police for allegedly breaking a rule about the mandatory wearing of the hijab, her death sparked massive protests in Iran and 67% of Americans say they have hard of the uprising.

73% of Americans strongly or somewhat approve of the recent protests, only 7% disapprove. Though approval is strong across both political parties, whose who are democrats exhibit more outright and strong approval.

American women are more likely to see gender disparities in both America and Iran, whereas men will likely only see them in Iran. 80% of American men will sat women in Iran are treated unfairly. But when asked about the treatment of women in the United States, they’re more likely to say that member of each gender don’t receive fair treatment, 29% say women don’t and 28% say men don’t.

82% of American women say Iranian women don’t receive fair treatment, and only 15% say the same of Iranian men. Women will also say women are disadvantaged in the United States compared to their male counterparts. 58% of American women say women are treated unfairly in the United States and only 15% will say men aren’t.
