Most Americans say 2022 was a bad year for the country and themselves but it was still better than 2020 or 2021, per a poll from YouGov/Economist. Opinions on how the country is doing and where it is going vary with what is being asked. In particular when it comes to education, job security and health care people say the country is better now than the last two years but when it comes to economic issues, both national and local-things are much worse.
Many Americans appear to expect 2023 to be a hard year economically even as COVID-19 pandemic restrictions are lifted more and more. Most say the U.S. is in a recession, with some saying the economy is actually getting worse. In June 65% said so but mow only 47% say the same thing, perhaps a sign some are feeling a little better. Half of Americans polled say their family has been affected “a lot” by inflation.
49% say 2022 was a worse year for Wall Street than 2021. And 33% believe that things will get worse, with only 21% believing they will get better. Of course though, only time will tell who is right.
