Americans are dissatisfied with conditions in the United States, this according to an annual Gallup survey that was conducted just before President Trump returned to the Oval Office. When Trump took office last month, pessimism was at a low, averaging at 38%.
The results, released on Wednesday, reflect findings from other Gallup polls that American’s are unhappy about the direction of the country. This low average has not budged since 2022. Across the 31 issues discussed, Americans were most upset about how the country is dealing with poverty and homelessness. 22% said they were satisfied with the ‘ethical and moral climate’ of the U.S.
Respondents seemed happiest about five issues, the strength of the united states military, acceptance of lesbian and gay people, and overall quality of life. The latter being the only issue that had a majority rating from both sides of the political aisle. However, the percentage of those satisfied with the quality of life has dropped by 18 points since 2017. Both major political parties were cynical about 17 issues including race relations, health care quality.affordability and abortion policy.
The bottom line, according to the poll operators, Americans were less satisfied now than about most key issues in January 2017 ahead of Trump’s first term. The perspectives will continue to shift while he is in office with Republicans offering a brighter outlook and Democrats likely slipping into deeper dissatisfaction.
