Blacks spend an average of 13 hours, 24 minutes, per day with media, compared to an average of 11 hours, 33 minutes, for Americans overall, according to The Media Audit. They spend more time online per day than the typical American (4 hours, 21 minutes vs. 3 hours, 57 minutes). Blacks time spent with the Internet has increased dramatically, up from 1 hour, 9 minutes, in 2005.
As a result of their increased time spent online, television and radio account for a diminished share. In 2010, television accounts for 35.2% of the time Blacks spend with media each day, down from 42.9% in 2005. In 2010, radio accounts for 21.1% of the time Blacks spend with media, down from 31.4% in 2005.
