Giving Thanks Going Out Of Style: Generational Attitudes Differ

Three in 10 adults say it is irresponsible if they do not send a note of thanks for a gift that someone gave them, according to Liberty Mutual and Ketchum. Only 20% of 18-29 year olds agree, compared to 53% of those aged 65 and older.

Sending a note or card is the second most common way Americans show their appreciation for someone, surpassed by buying that person dinner. Those aged 50 and older (33%) are more likely than those aged 18-49 (17%) to say they would take a person to dinner to show their appreciation. Those aged 18-29 (27%) are more likely than average to say they would cook a person dinner, which may be a financial factor.
