Half Of Hispanics Aged 50 And Older Are Not Online

More than one in five Hispanics aged 50 and older (21%) are very comfortable going online, compared to 40% of non-Hispanics the same age, according to AARP. In addition, 51% of Hispanics aged 50 and older do not go online, compared to only 17% of non-Hispanics the same age.

Of those who are online, older Hispanics (44%) are more likely than non-Hispanics the same age (36%) to access social networking sites. One in three online Hispanics aged 50 and older (30%) use Facebook, 6% use MySpace, 5% use LinkedIn, 2% use Twitter, and 8% use other social networks.

Hispanics aged 50 and older who use social media are connected to their children (68%), grandchildren (38%), and other relatives (77%) via the sites. They most commonly first learned about social media from a family member (34%), friend (22%), or coworker (18%).
