Half of Americans (51%) say houseguests overstay their welcome after a few days, according to HomeAway. Men (57%) are more likely than women (46%) to say so; in fact, 11% of men say houseguests are unwelcome as soon as they arrive, compared to 3% of women. If hosts could find different accommodations for a houseguest, they would most commonly do so for a sibling (27%), mother-in-law (20%), or a grown child (16%).
Guests occasionally feel put out by their sleeping arrangements. More than a quarter have been forced to sleep on a sofa or futon (28%), 21% have slept on the floor, 14% on a rollaway bed, and 4% have had to share a room with a child relative.
