Most Women Own Pets And Consider Them Family Members

More than two in three women (69%) and 55% of men currently own a pet, according to Harris Interactive. While women are more likely than men to consider their pet to be a member of their family (95% vs. 85%), men are more likely to lavish personalized attention on Fido. They are more likely to cook meals especially for their pet (41% vs. 33%) and to dress the pet in clothing (17% vs. 15%). Men are also twice as likely as women to take their pet to work with them (17% vs. 6%).

While women are more likely than men to purchase their pet a holiday present (63% vs. 56%), men are more likely to buy their pet a birthday gift (41% vs. 33%).
