Two thirds of affluent smartphone owners (with annual incomes of $150,000 or more) shop via mobile, according to the Luxury Institute. Half make purchases at least monthly, and 80% have spent more than $100 on mobile transactions in the past year. A quarter have spent more than $1,000.
Among the 33% who never shop via mobile, the top reason for not doing so is a preference for the in-store shopping experience (51%). Privacy and security concerns are also an issue (29%).
More than six in 10 affluent Americans (62%) own smartphones. Eight in 10 affluent smartphone owners have downloaded apps — an average of 15 apps. On average, affluent downloaders use half of their apps frequently, although 48% use five or fewer on a regular basis. Facebook is the most popular and most frequently used app.
