05-18-12 Nearly half of U.S. homeowners (49%) have participated in gardening activities in the past year, according to Scarborough Research. Gardeners are 10% more likely than homeowners overall to be Baby Boomers.
Three in 10 homeowners who garden (31%) have done interior painting or wallpapering projects in their homes in the past year; 15% have done carpeting or floor covering home improvements in the past year.
Gardeners are 26% more likely than homeowners overall to buy locally grown food, 25% more likely to pay more for environmentally friendly products, and 25% more likely to donate money to environmental causes.
Homeowners who garden are 11% more likely than homeowners overall to read the home and garden pages of the newspaper and 8% more likely to read the food cooking section. They’re also 8% more likely to watch documentaries on TV.
Online homeowners who garden are 23% more likely than online homeowners in general to have shopped online for pet supplies, 19% more likely to have shopped online for furniture, and 16% more likely to have shopped online for health and beauty aids in the past year.
