Americans Keep Spending On Pets, Regardless Of Finances

05-18-12 Three quarters of U.S. pet owners (75%) say the amount they spend on their pets isn’t affected by the economy, according to a Harris Interactive survey for CouponCabin.com. A third of pet owners spend $51 or more per month on their pets, including 12% who spend $101 or more.

More than a third of pet owners (34%) spend more on their pets than on their friends, and 32% spend more on their pets than on their families. More than a fifth (22%) spend more on their pets than on themselves.

More than a quarter (26%) put their pets’ healthcare needs before their own. Only 7% of pet owners have pet insurance, but another 17% might be interested in buying it.
