Non-Hispanic Whites make up fewer than half of pre-kindergarten-age children in public schools, according to the Pew Research Center.
Hispanics make up 17% of 18-24-year-old college students, up from 3% in 1972.
While much of the increase is due to population growth, increasing rates of high school completion and college enrollment also play significant roles. More than three quarters of Hispanics ages 18-24 (76%) earned high school diplomas in 2011, up from 73% in 2010.
