Moms of young children are about as likely as teens to be involved in car crashes while driving, according to American Baby and Safe Kids Worldwide. One in 10 mothers have been in an accident while driving with their babies in the car – three times the average rate of car crashes among the general population of drivers.
Moms with young children engage in a variety of unsafe behaviors while driving, including talking on the phone, texting, emailing, and turning around to tend to a child.
Moms get only five hours and 20 minutes of consecutive sleep per night on average – an hour and a half less than long-haul truck drivers – which leads to drowsy driving and slow reaction times.
Two thirds of moms (66%) find it difficult to concentrate on a single task since having children. More than three quarters (77%) are more worried about getting into an accident since they had children.
