Blacks 35-54 Are Larger Proportion Of Veterans Than Of Non-Veterans

Black Americans ages 35-54 make up a larger proportion of veterans (18%) than of non-veterans (12%) in this age group, according to the U.S. Census Bureau. In all other age groups, Blacks make up either a smaller proportion of veterans than non-veterans, or equal proportions. Hispanics make up a smaller proportion of veterans than non-veterans across all age groups. Non-Hispanic Whites make up a larger proportion of veterans than they do non-veterans across all age groups.

Among veterans who were born outside of the U.S., Mexico and the Phillippines are the top countries of origin, accounting for 13% and 12% of all foreign-born veterans, respectively.
