More than eight in 10 “fitness enthusiasts” (those who exercise three or more times per week) (82%) feel they aren’t practicing good nutrition habits after exercise, according to Abbott’s EAS Sports Nutrition. Most would like to improve the way the feel after working out, including 52% who would like to experience less muscle soreness and 42% who would like to have more energy.
Seven in 10 (72%) know that eating properly after a workout helps restore energy, but only 6% are aware that the optimal mix of nutrients is a 2:1 or 3:1 ratio of carbohydrates and protein. Fewer than a third are aware that good post-workout nutrition helps decrease muscle breakdown.
