Young women taking college courses online are more likely than men to enroll in distance learning courses, according to SmarterServices, which measures online academics. Ethnic diversity is relatively stable.
Students learn using a variety of learning styles, most adapting their style to the format of the content. That said, the most common preferred learning style is social, which means verbally discussing information, while the least preferred style is verbal or textbook reading.
Students read an average of 376 words per minute, up from an average of 205 in 2010. The average typing speed is 27.73 words per minute, down from 28.02 words in 2009. More than three in 10 students (32%) demonstrate 100% accuracy on typing tests.
