Two in three teachers (68%) would like more technology in the classroom than they currently have, according to PBS LearningMedia. A similar percentage (69%) says educational technology allows them to do much more for their students than ever before.
Nine in 10 teachers (90%) have access to at least one PC or laptop for their classroom, and 59% have access to an interactive whiteboard. Access to a tablet or e-reader increased from 20% in 2012 to 35% in 2013. Among teachers with access to tablets, 71% cite the use of educational applications as the most beneficial for teaching, followed by educational websites (64%), and educational e-books/textbooks (60%).
More than six in 10 teachers (65%) say technology allows them to demonstrate something to their students that they cannot show in any other way. Nearly half (48%) use technology for online lesson plans, 45% use it to give students access to Web-based educational games, and 43% use online video, images, or articles.
Other benefits teachers affix to technology include enabling them to expand content (74%), to motivate students to learn (74%), and to respond to a variety of learning styles (73%).
