Two-thirds of U.S. Internet users (67%) use social networks, according to the Pew Research Center. Women (71%) are more likely than men (62%) to use them. Hispanics (72%) are more likely than non-Hispanic whites (65%) and slightly more likely than blacks (68%) to use social networks.
Blacks are significantly more likely than whites or Hispanics to use Twitter or Instagram, while whites are more likely than blacks or Hispanics to use Pinterest.
There are few differences in social network usage by income or education, but people who live in urban areas are more likely than those who live in rural areas to use them (70% versus 61%).
The most significant differences in social media use are age-based; usage is highest among 18- to 29-year-olds and declines with age.
