FTC to Host ‘Internet of Things’ Seminar

7/1/2013

The Federal Trade Commission is holding a public workshop on Nov. 21, 2013, in Washington, D.C., to address concerns over the “Internet of Things.” The seminar will discuss data privacy implications, particularly regarding children and their smartphones and Internet usage. In advance of the event, the FTC is seeking online queries on the privacy and security implications for these developments. For instance:

  • What types of companies make up the smart ecosystem?
  • What are the various technologies-barcodes, wireless connections-that enable this connectivity?
  • What are the unique privacy and security concerns associated with smart technology and its data?
