Two in three women (63%) define professional success as having the right balance between work and personal life, according to LinkedIn. However, only 39% prioritized this balance five to 10 years ago. The importance placed on salary as a professional accomplishment has decreased over the past decade from 56% to 45%. At the same time, having an interesting job grew as a measurement for success from 45% to 58%.
Two in three women (65%) would like greater flexibility in their workplace. In fact, this flexible work environment ranks as the most important factor in determining the success of the next generation of professional women (80%), followed by having a greater representation of women at senior levels (70%).
Women still encounter career challenges. Their top issues include the lack of a career path (51%), lack of investment in professional development (47%), and pay inequality (44%). However, few cite the glass ceiling (23%), their appearance (21%), and sexism (19%) as impacting their careers.
Three in four women (74%) believe they can “have it all,” and 77% consider themselves successful.
