Almost seven in 10 college students (69%) purchase food and beverages from on-campus food service facilities at least once a week, according to Technomic. Nonetheless, only 35% of college students are satisfied with their school’s dining program. Nearly half (45%) wish their school had grocery stores where they could shop using their meal plan.
A majority of students say it’s highly important they are able to substitute (53%) or add (50%) ingredients themselves. Two in three (66%) regularly explore new types of foods and flavors.
The top nonalcoholic beverages consumed by college students on campus are specialty coffee, milk/chocolate milk, juice, coffee/filter coffee, and soft drinks/fountain drinks.
