Four in 10 women employees provide care to an elder family member or friend, according to the National Alliance for Caregiving and MetLife. These caregivers tend to neglect their own health. Among women over 50, 17% of caregivers rate their health as “fair or poor” compared to 9% among non-caregivers. Women caregivers age 40-49 are twice as likely as non-caregivers the same age to have diabetes (6% vs. 3%).
Stress is another prevalent issue impacting women. Two in 10 caregivers age 18-39 (22%) are “almost always” stressed at home compared to 9% of men caregivers the same age. [Health/Wellness]
