You won’t believe what people snack on while watching football.
To be sure, when most football loving Americans think of game day snacks, they imagine pizza, wings, and beef. But some states seem to prefer pancakes, pumpkin and even veganism, according to a new DirecTV study that analyzed more than 25,000 Instagram photos that used the hashtag #gameday featuring food.
It turns out Florida, Nevada, and South Dakota have exchanged typical gamed snacks in favor of goodies void of animal by-products.
And although the majority of football-crazed Instagramers prefer classics such as chicken and burgers, states like Montana, Kansas and Maine have begun chewing on less-traditional treats, such as eggs Benedict.
Cheeses are most popular in six states (South Carolina, New Hampshire, Pennsylvania, West Virginia, Maryland, and Hawai’i, followed by pizza (Indiana, Missouri, Arizona, and Delaware), and eggs Benedict (Mississippi, Montana, Kansas, and Maine).
Unsurprisingly, Jambayla is most popular in Louisiana — and surprisingly, New Jersey. While those living in the Natural State prefer pancakes.
