Teachers Feel High School Students Unprepared For College; Students Disagree

While two in three college students (68%) felt they were prepared to handle college coursework in their first semester, nearly the same number of high school teachers (69%) feel their students are not adequately prepared to handle the college coursework, according to Deloitte.

There are subjects in which teachers feel students are better equipped to handle. One in four teachers (24%) feel students are not prepared to apply critical thinking or research and analytical skills (24% each). Students, overwhelmingly, are confident they are prepared to apply both critical thinking (98%) and research/analytical skills (94%).

Three in 10 students (28%) have to take at least one remedial course during their first year of college, primarily math (79%) and literacy (32%) courses. [Education]
