Teens 13-17 send 3,339 text messages per month, according to Nielsen. Girls send an average 4,050 and boys send out an average 2,539.
Teens certainly love all aspects of texting. Two in 10 (22%) say it’s easier than a phone call and another 20% feel it’s faster. The ability to text is the top reason teens initially get a cellphone (43%), followed by safety (35%), and to keep in touch wit
h friends (34%).
Teens have also increased their data usage, with teen boys using more per month than teen girls (75 MB vs. 53 MB). Teen usage of app and software downloads also increased 12% year-over-year. [Telecommunications]
