College Kids Have 200-500 “Friends” But Rarely See Them Live

The largest number of college students (32%) have between 200-499 friends on their most frequently used social networking site, while 26% have between 500-999 friends, according to an AP/MTV poll. However, three in four (76%) do not feel the number of online “friends” reflects a person’s popularity.

Online friendship isn’t the same as real-life relationships. Only 14% see about half of their friends on a daily basis and 51% only talk to “very few of them” on the phone on a weekly basis.

One in 10 (10%) feel comfortable enough with only half of their online “friends” to share very personal details. [Online]
