“Who says you can’t go home/who says you can’t go back/I been all around the world and as a matter of fact/there’s only one place left I want to go/who says you can’t go home…” sang Bon Jovi in the 2006 song, and it seems that is very true. Six in ten young adults live within 10 miles of where they grew up according to the Census Bureau and Harvard University.
The study shows that the opportunity for higher wages can influence people, meaning people will move where there are more opportunities for money. Growing up in a more affluent home also impacts peoples opportunities to move away from where they grew up. I.E Richer people can move away more than non-rich people. White people appear to be more influenced by economic opportunity than their Black counterparts who seem more inclined to stay near family.
