Only 5% of Americans cite newspapers as the most essential medium in their lives, compared to 11% in 2002, according to Arbitron and Edison Research. In fact, 49% believe that newspapers will no longer exist in the future because people will get all of their news online, a proportion that has increased from 27% in 2007. However, they may be getting their online news from online newspapers — the same proportion of Americans visit local TV station websites as visit local newspaper websites. [Mass Media]
