On average, young people have their first alcoholic drink in an unsupervised setting at age 17, according to Ypulse. Nearly half of high school students (46%) say the popular kids at their school drink.
Underage drinkers are most likely to consume straight shots (22%), mixed drinks (21%), and beer (18%). Girls are more likely than boys to have sampled a variety of forms of alcohol.
Other Vices
Some 40% of Millennials have tried drugs. High school students are more likely than college students to use prescription drugs that were not prescribed for them. One in four have shoplifted an item worth less than $50; 5% have been arrested.
Teens consider smoking less cool than drinking. Only one in three high schoolers (36%) say the popular kids at their school smoke.
