Women Vets Become Own Bosses

More than one in two women military veterans (55%) say their leadership experience in the military inspired them to start their own businesses, according to Capital One Financial and non-profit Count Me In for Women’s Economic Independence. Nearly half of U.S. women veteran business owners (46%) say their business endeavors helped them transition to civilian life.

Yet these women acknowledge the challenges of being their own bosses. Nearly half (46%) do not have business plans in place for the next one to two years, 19% have issues managing finances and cash flow, 15% struggle with developing marketing strategies, and 14% lack a clear strategy for growth.

More than one in four (28%) say their greatest need is to learn how to secure new customers, while 24% need guidance in gaining access to capital.
