Only 4% of professional women don’t believe they will “have it all” someday, according to Citi Group and LinkedIn. Being in a loving relationship and having enough money to do and buy what they want are the top two factors in professional women’s definition of “having it all.” Raising happy and healthy kids and having a job “that I enjoy and where my work is valued” round out the top four.
More than one in three (36%) feel marriage is not an element of having it all, and 27% feel that way about raising children. However, women under age 35 are more likely than women age 35 and older to believe being in a strong, loving marriage is essential to having it all (71% vs. 60%).
Professional women’s top career concerns are attaining a work-life balance, having career advancement opportunities, and finding the time to network. Fewer than one in five women define having it all as reaching the height of success in their careers (17%) or being their own boss (15%). Women under age 35 are more likely than older women to equate having it all with corporate success (26% vs. 11%), but less likely to link having it all with being their own boss (8% vs. 19%).
