Almost eight in 10 shoppers (79%) prefer to shop in stores during the weekend, according to Yesmail Interactive. People tend to buy jewelry in-store 77% of the time rather than purchasing these items online.
Three in 10 online shoppers (31%) prefer to do their shopping on Saturday or Sunday. Among the 47% of shoppers who prefer Internet shopping during the week, the most popular days are Monday and Wednesday. Online shoppers purchase music, DVDs, and books online rather than in-store 61% of the time. Consumer electronics and apparel, however, have a 50/50 breakdown between online and in-store purchases.
Eight in 10 online shoppers (80%) say email promotions have “somewhat” or “strongly” influenced their decisions to purchase online, and 71% say email promotions have influenced their decisions to purchase in-store. The most widely utilized email promotions, based on redemption, are percent-off (54%), free shipping (30%), money-off (13%), rewards points (2%), and free gift with purchase (1%).
The majority of shoppers (85%) have “liked” a brand on Facebook or commented on a brand’s page. Some 17% have watched a video on a brand’s YouTube channel, while 15% have written a product or brand review on a social forum or blog. Among Pinterest users, 14% have pinned an image on a brand’s page.
Almost two in three shoppers with smartphones (62%) have used their devices to compare web prices to in-store prices while in the store, and 48% have used their devices to look up product reviews.
Nearly all holiday shoppers with access to the Internet (97%) shopped for at least some gifts online in 2012. One in two shoppers (50%) began their holiday purchasing between October 1 and November 30.
