Michelle Obama (50%), Hillary Clinton (47%), and Marissa Mayer (28%) are the most admired female role models for women working in science and engineering, according to software provider Atlassian. Marie Curie (53%), Rosa Parks (38%), and Eleanor Roosevelt (35%) are the most inspiring leaders of the past.
Nearly all women working in STEM (science, technology, engineering, and math) fields (98%) enjoy working in these industries, and 80% are satisfied with their current jobs. Women working in STEM careers attribute their successes to tenacity in pursuing their ambitions (92%) and to being recognized for their intelligence and abilities (69%).
Four in 10 (41%) describe themselves as intelligent and rational; 19% say they are outspoken, bold, and opinionated; and 16% say they are passionate and emotional. Women in STEM careers consider intelligence the most admirable trait in their female coworkers, followed by passion and resourcefulness.
More than eight in 10 (84%) see themselves continuing to work in technology for at least 10 more years. However, 58% cite lack of training or mentorship, and 55% cite the lack of upward mobility as the biggest roadblocks to their success.
