Boys ages 7-14 say baseball is their favorite sport to play, while girls prefer to play soccer, according to Nickelodeon Kaleidoscope.
Children, on average, participate in two to three organized sports each year. By age 14, they typically have participated in four to five different sports.
One in two children play sports three to four times each week, with 20% playing five or six days a week.
Three in 10 children say they have had a parent make them play a sport, with 73% still participating in that sport.
More than eight in 10 parents (85%) attend all games/matches, and 64% attend all practices. Parents of boys are more likely than parents of girls to attend practices (69% vs. 54%). However, there are no gender differences in attendance among parents at games/matches.
