More than one in four boys ages 2-5 (27%) eat three snacks a day, in addition to their regular meals, according to the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey. A similar percentage of their girl counterparts (28%) also eat three snacks a day.
Boys, overall, are more consistent with their snacking behaviors as they age. They primarily eat two or three snacks a day regardless if they are seven or 70.
Girls, by comparison, fluctuate their snacking behaviors as they age. Whereas 23% of girls ages 2-5 eat four snacks a day, only 12% of girls ages 12-19 eat snacks four times a day. Likewise, the number of girls who eat two snacks a day grows from 18% at ages 2-5 to 27% at ages 12-19.
